Fire Protection Services – Holding back time

Fire Protection Services, what are they?

Passive fire protection services are the methods by which barriers to fire are created to slow and contain the rate at which fire spreads within buildings.  By installing fire resistant walls, partitioning, floors, doors and ceilings, the spread of fire can be effectively impaired, so helping to prevent the ultimate collapse of the main structure of the building.

By effective planning and design, fire resistant materials and products can be installed in corridors, stairwells, rooms and roof cavities to retain and slow the spread of fire without the use of electronic equipment or monitors.  By slowing and containing the spread of fire from the originating room until emergency services arrive, the resultant damage can be dramatically reduced and more importantly, occupants have time to safely evacuate the building.

Our passive fire protection services include the protection of structural steel and incorporate fire resistant boards, dry linings, mineral wool and intumescent coatings which expand when heated to seal gaps or protect materials.  For example, in the event of a fire, such fire prevention systems would trigger to seal gaps in fire doors, or seal-in electrical consumer units and switches; also expanding to protect flammable materials such as wood and plaster, and so reducing the spread of harmful smoke.
